Trying to Get Pregnant

How far do you travel to work

Hi

I was just curious about how far you guys travel to work. We are TTC/family planning and in the process of selling our house to move somewhat closer to my job. I'm a school counselor and I drive an hour each way to my job. My DH works five minutes from home. With hopefully starting a family soon does a 45 minute commute seem high? All the areas we would like to move to are about 45 minutes away and anything closer would involve farm duties. I was just curious what work plans you guys have for after baby.

Re: How far do you travel to work

  • DH and I both have easy commutes. It takes me 15 minutes to get to work. DH's travel is about the same. I think it just depends on where you live. 45 minutes each way is not unheard of. I have a friend in the NY/NJ area who has a 2 hour commute each way.

  • 10 minutes from work with no traffic. We are planning to move in a year or two, but it'll be close to where we are now most likely. Dh has said that if I get a job out of town though that we will always live closer to my job and he will commute.
  • "Normal" commute times really depend where you live.  I only live 7.2 miles from work, but in rush hour on the way home it often takes 40+ minutes to get there.  As far as planning for after baby, I really recommend having a daycare (if that is

  • One of my reasons for being a SAHM was bc of my almost hour commute to work. NJ is mostly highways, so taking a child on major thoroughfares with horrible drivers and tractor trailers for an hour terrified me, even though I'm the best driver in the world.

  • I think it depends on the city. I know some people in other states who complain about a 15 minute commute, but where I am in metro Atlanta we call anything under 45 mins a great commute. 45 mins to an hour seems normal here.

  • DH drives an hour and I drive an hour and 15 minutes (in opposite directions of course!) so that doesn't seem like a lot to me.

  • We are very fortunate that H commutes ~20 mins (depending on traffic) to work and I have to travel all 15 feet to get to my home office ;)  This is a perk I doubt I'll have forever so I'm enjoying it while I can!  <span style="font-size:10pt;

  • DH drives 45minutes, each way, for work. When I used to work, my job was an hr away.

    This is a small town and in order to have a job that can actually pay the bills, you have to drive for it.

    All Welcome

  • 1 hour is typical here in Houston. I used to have a 30 miles commute that took an hour or more. I traded that in for a 7-miles 15-30 minute, depending on traffic. It's much less stress and wear and tear on the vehicle

  • I commute 45 minutes each way (to another county) and once or twice a month I have to drive 1 hour and 20 min to our main office. It isn't bad and DH only works 20 min from home. I am looking for a job near home (I've been here 10 months), but if it doesn

  • I'm about 25-30 minutes (when I walk), or 10-15 if I bike or take the subway. DH is more like 45-50 minutes on subway.

    The plan is to stay where we are and use childcare close to home (and my work).
