Breastfeeding

Pumping question

We are BF'ing our son but I also pump so that my hubby can help with one feeding in the middle of the night.  I've noticed that when I do pump, my right breast always produces more milk than the other.  I've tried adjusting the breast shield, different sitting positions, and even massaging the breast during the pump to see if it helps but no luck :(  Has anyone else experienced this?  Any suggestions?  TIA!

Re: Pumping question

  • Yep! I EP and my left usually produces less than (or takes a much longer time to catch up with) my right.

  • I am in the same boat, it use to be my right then switched to my right. I have no clue what causes it. I nurse LO on my left side a lot because it doesn't hurt when she latches on that side.
  • I think it's normal for one side to produce more than the other.  I've also read that sometimes babies will prefer one breast over the other (for reasons such as flow, amount, etc).  I EP also and my left produces more than the right 9 times

  • Most women usually have a super boob. Mine actually switched from one to the other when LO was about 3 months old!

  • Yep, normal. With my first DS, he preferred the left boob and it always produced more (it was also bigger). DD seems to like the right one better and now I can pump more out of that one.
