ugh...jury duty??

Hi Ladies!

Anyone have any suggestions for getting out of Jury duty?? I just received a summons and there will be no way I can go. I am a SAHM and have no child care. My mom could watch DS for a little while but physically could not all day. I am pretty sure this won't matter but we are EBF ( I thought I read somewhere they just have to give you time to pump...ugh..). Neither of these reasons are listed under the "reasons to be excused" so I am going to have to just mail a letter of explanation and just hope for the best. I was just wondering if anyone else has dealt with this and how you handled it.....I am afraid I will write this letter and wind up saying the wrong thing.

ETA: I am in Ohio if that matters...

I thought being a sahm was an approved exception? I know it is in Texas, something about sole providor of child care.

It's generally considered a valid excuse during baby's first year. Be sure to specify your LOs age, that you are EBF, and that you are currently a sahm with no child care resources. Send it ASAP in case they have any follow up.

It really does vary from state to state and jurisdiction to jurisdiction. I was called when DS was an infant. I EBF and am a SAHM. I was selected for a jury, and DH ended up taking off from work for the three days I had to serve so he could stay with DS.

Someone posted a link to a La Leche page that discussed jury duty and BFing laws in different states. I wish I could find it and make a clicky, but I'm on my phone.

I really hope you can get out. It'd be such a nightmare to be called!!
