Dry crock pot meat?

It seems that any time I cook with the crock pot that the meat ends up dry unless it is a very fatty piece. Any tips?

  • NOOO!!!!! I do not lift the lid. Hmm, I could be over cooking it. Maybe I need to stick with the 4 hour recipes and not the 8 hour ones.

  • I found a couple of tricks:

    1. Make sure the lid is set on so that steam is not escaping.  On mine it has wiggle room all around so if it's not centered this happens. 

    2. Use the low setting for a longer time, high tends to make

  • Sear the meat first?  Mine always turns out better when I do this.

  • Depending on the type of meat you are cooking.  Adding broth, water, or coca-cola soda helps. 

    I always add extra extra liquid, as i like moist, not dry chewy meat. you can always drain extra liquid off.

  • I learned that I never put enough water in.  That dried out my meats.  
  • I would check your cook time, especially if smaller cut of meat.  That's always been the culprit when I've had that problem.
