Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Visiting grandparents

DS is going to be staying with my parents for three days while I am out of town at a wedding.  He's 18 mo. and has only seen my parents maybe 5 times, the last visit being 6 months ago, so they're pretty much strangers to him.  I'm nervous about how it's going to go; they have two over-excited dogs who fight constantly that he's afraid of and people are always coming and going so it's generally a noisy, hectic place.  This will also be the first time he'll be away from me for more than a night.  What can I do to make it easier on him?  I'll obviously pack his favorite toys, movies, etc, but is there anything else to do too?  I know I'm probably worrying too much, but I just want it to go well, for DS and my parents.  Thanks!

  • They can't come to your house?  My son always does better in his own environment, although I haven't left him overnight yet...

Dear God, Since I couldn't hold my little one in my lap and tell him about you, could you hold him in your lap and tell him about me?

  • Thanks all! I wish my parents could watch DS at our house, but they live 10 hours away from us and are on the way to the wedding, so their house is the only option.  My parents have a high chair, stroller, and other baby items from when my nephew was
  • I think the fact that you are going a few days early will really help. By the time you leave they won't be unfamiliar to him. Maybe try to run some errands or something for a few hours during those few days as a trial run.
