  • I don't think many 2.5 yr olds play by themselves. It's not really an age appropriate expectation.  Mine mostly follows me around "helping".  I try to give him tasks to keep him out of my hair - like putting up his socks one at a ti

  • My 2.5 year old loves to play by himself. He particularly likes to pretend, be a cook, be a carpenter, firefighter, astronaught, etc. he also likes to sit and play in the sand or with play dough. Maybe you could start letting him play for short periods
  • I was just telling DH how we could get rid of DD''s toys and she wouldn't even notice.  Lately she never plays by herself.  Glad to know I'm not alone.  I'm also a SAHM and I can totally relate to the getting things done, plus I have an

  • I think there is a difference in what people consider 'playing by themselves'. Generally my DD is, what I consider, good about playing by herself, but she is normally within eye sight of me and will check in periodically, she is not in her room playing

  • I don't think this has anything to do with being a SAHM or not, but is more about your child's personality.

Mine will not play alone at home. She's in daycare all day, which means she shares attention with a dozen other kids and they have multi

  • My 2 y/o will play by himself for short periods of time, but always in the same room that I am in. We have toys in every room, including a small toy box in the kitchen, to help keep him entertained. He also likes to "help;" e.g. with laundry he will put t

  • I think every kid is just different. My DS, who is 2.5, would play by himself all day if I let him. He's always been very quiet, independent type. He's been in daycare since 4 months old. I have friends who have children that want to play with them all th
  • They love to help so much at this age, use it to your advantage.  I find that she can 'help' me with pretty much anything I am doing.  When I'm doing laundry, I just put DD in the sink next to the washing machine and she throws the clothes in

  • I wouldnt blame yourself for being a SAHM and giving him too much attention. DH and I work full time and DD goes to daycare where she has lots of friend to play with and at home about the only thing she will do independently is color but will still ask

  • Just like the others said, it's certainly not your fault for being a SAHM! My DS1 has a hard time playing by himself too. We actually packed up a good amount of his toys because we thought he was being overstimulated. Our plan is to cycle toys through
