MTHFR ladies?

So I just got some lab results that I hadn't seen before -- they had been ordered by my new RE who I'm not using for my upcoming DE cycle, so I had my records sent to me from his office to show the old RE (who hasn't seen them yet because they just came in the mail today).  I tested positive for "a single copy for the C677T" MTHFR mutation.  My blood homocysteine is normal.

So, a quick, panicked search on Dr. Google seems to suggest that a single copy of the mutation shouldn't hurt anything, though some seem to disagree and say I shouldn't be taking regular folic acid, etc. etc.

Anyone in the same boat?  Is this something I should worry about?

Re: MTHFR ladies?

  • My RE said it really wasn't anything to worry about and just has me take folgaurd with my prenatal vit.

  • I just have the single mutation.  My doctor has me on 81mg aspirin, Folgard, and from ET through pregnancy I will be taking a daily Lovenox injection.  He said it is better to be safe than sorry. I am pleased that he is being proactive.

  • Thanks for your responses, ladies.  It's interesting that doctors don't seem to be on the same page about what to do about the heterozygous (single) form of the mutation.  Something else to worry about!  Ugh.
