GVSU

DId you go for your long run on Sunday?

I have been entertaining the idea of running for a while now; while pregnant my H was training for a triathlon and pretty much just went balls to the wall which excites and scares me! I would like to take baby steps, but ultimately be able to run for long periods of time ..what are some suggestions for a beginner? Is there a shoe I should start with?

  • Sorry, I'm totally butting in here, but you should check out the couch to 5K program.  It's totally baby steps and has worked really well for tons and tons of people.  Once you're up to running a 5k, it's easier to take the next steps from there

Regarding shoes, you'll want to go to a running store /not Sports Authority or ***'s, if possible/ to get fitted. </

  • Awesome! Thanks for the website, and I have a Road Runner store right down the street. In a few weeks I am getting some work done concerning my heart so I think it would be wise to have a good shoe for the stress test on the treadmill.

  • Also totally butting in, but I just want to give another vote for Couch to 5K and offer some encouragement to give it a try! DH started it over a year ago and ran his first 5K last summer. He is now training for a 200 mile relay, a 4 mile obs
