Alex's Birth Story PIP (long)

I tried to make this short but the details got the best of me. Sorry for the big pic

On Friday 4/12 I was diagnosed with mild preeclamsia after the results of a 24 hour urine.  My OB scheduled me to be admitted on Sunday at 9:30pm for a foley bulb placement to help with dilation prior to induction.  The foley bulb placement wasn't nearly as bad as I feared and by 3am I was 3cm dilated and the bulb fell out.  The nurse let me get some rest and said she would be back to start the pitocin. Around 5am the nurse started Pitocin.  They started it really low and increased the dosage every 30 minutes until my contractions were 2 minutes apart.   My OB then came in around 7:30am to check on my progress and attempt to break my water.  Several attempts and me cursing in pain later he gave up and said he would come back later and retry.  I have to say, that was agony...I cried and cried after he left the room.  My contractions started picking up around 11:30am and were every 2 minutes but I was only dilated 4cm.  The mid wife at my OB office (I love her BTW) came in and again attempted to break my water.  She didn't have any luck but this time it wasn't painful just uncomfortable. She said it I still pretty high up and I needed to contract a bit to bring LO down and she would return in 2 hours.  After contracting for 2 hours she returned at 1pm and broke my water, woohooo.  This is when real labor took affect.  I received my epidural after 3 major contractions (I'm a wimp lol).  The epidural was heaven and the doctor who administered it was unbelievable.  At 3:30pm I started to feel pressure and the need to push.  I explained my symptoms to the nurse and she checked me and I was 9cm dilated. 

 

My mid wife arrived around 4pm and we started the pushing. My labor was short but scary. Alex had to be vacuumed out because his heart rate kept dropping everytime I pushed.  I was put in so many different positions to help raise his heart rate but with each contraction his heart rate dropped.  I was scared to death because nobody would tell me what was going on and at one point I had 3 doctors in the room.  One hour of pushing and Alex arrived @ 5:09pm 6lbs 10oz 20in.   He was placed in observation after our skin to skin time due to high respiratory rate and shallow breathing.  4 hours later little Alex was in our room and well.  The doctor thinks he may have swallowed some excess fluid on his way out.  We are home and besides all the fears of being a FTM we are happy, tired and healthy.  Alex and I did not do well with breast feeding so I am now pumping my BM and feeding him with a bottle.  I give major credit to everyone who can BF it is definitely a learning process but after seeing the pediatrician, and the recommendation of Fomula (which I didn't want to do) due to Alex weight loss I figured it was best for both of us if I pumped and fed so I knew his intake. We return to the pediatrician tomorrow and I am hoping he has gained some weight back with our new arrangement.  Thank you everyone for the support.     Congratulations!!!! He is adorable!!!!! Glad you made it through the difficult parts of delivery and have a LO to be amazed by everyday now! :)
    Anniversary
    Tried to conceive on our own for a year before moving on to fertility treatments. Dx unexplained. About 10 months of procedures, shots, and countless doctor appointments, we got our BFP! BFN on 5 IUI's
    IVF#1 - ER 09/14/12, ET 09/17/12: two 8 cells, BFP: 9/28 Beta#1 56.8; 10/2 Beta#2 284; 10/5 Beta#3 939; 10/9 Beta #4 4967. One baby on board with EDD 06/07/13!

    He is adorable!! Many many congrats :)

    im bf-ing dd and I give you major credit for pumping! I hate my pump and that's a lot of work. So well done and I hope the weigh in goes well today.

    4/5 lap revealed blocked left tube, but right tube is open

    June 1- 100 mg Clomid + Ovidrel + IUI #1 = BFN
    June 28- 100 mg Clomid + Ovidrel + IUI #2 =BFP!

    04/07/11- PCOS Diagnosis w/GYN. Put on Metformin (1500 mgs)
    04/25/11- 1st consultation with RE (Confirmed PCOS & Anovulation)
    05/09/11-HSG-All clear! 05/13/11-SA-Normal. Found out on 2/14/12, low Morph (1%).
    06/17/11-10 days of Clomid (100, 150) No response.
    07/10/11-03/20/12- 5 Injectable (Follistim) IUI cycles; 4 BFN, 1 C/P. (stims ranged from 11 days to 25 days)
    05/28/12-Diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. 75 mcg Synthroid.

    IVF with ICSI in June/July 2013 = BFP!. Beta # 1 = 123. Beta # 2 = 252. Due March 25th. Baby boy arrived March 27, 2013!

    FET #1 - 10/4/14 = BFP!! Beta #1 = 179. Beta # 2 = 499. Due June 22nd.

    DX: DH (30) severe MFI, severely low count & low motility
    Me (32): all clear
    Appt with Urologist 5/21/12: exam, ultrasound, bloodwork all normal.
    Testicular Biopsy with TESE on 6/8/12. good sperm found! (left side only) froze sperm, failed thaw test :(
    Orientation for IVF/ICSI on 6/13/12. Waiting for the green light following biopsy results...results show adequate sperm production both sides.
    2nd SA 6/18/12: sample is "adequate for ICSI"
    Plan: IVF/ICSI July 2012!
    ER: 7/26/12. 15 eggs retrieved, all mature.
    TESE/TESA/aspiration from epididymis, no motile sperm found :(
    froze all eggs, the saga of praying for good sperm continues.
    8/3/12: 2nd opinion from MFI uro on biopsy slides. Suspects "partial late maturation arrest."
    Plan: more SAs, third biopsy/TESE with frozen back-up either from DH or DS.
    SA 8/17/12: Zero sperm
    SA 8/23/12: Zero sperm
    9/26/12: SPERM FOUND! 15 eggs thawed, 12 survived and were ICSI'd, only 3 fertilized normally. Refrozen as embies and will thaw in Nov. Please survive and grow!
    All 3 survived the thaw on 11/15/12!
    FET 11/17/12: transferred 2, one 4B, one 4C. Beta 11/30:BFFN
    moving on to DS

    11/13.   Please stick embies!!!!  We love you so much already! 11/12/14  POAS, BFP... beta tomorrow!
    11/13 beta #1  924!!!  2nd bet 11/15 1906, one more on 11/17 3rd & final beta 3430.  First u/s 12/5, 7w4d, 2 heartbeats,
    both measuring right on track....2nd u/s... all is well... both beans measuring right on track... released from RE... first
    appointment with MFM 1/5.  Looks like this is really happening!

    So sorry they had such trouble breaking your water and getting him out while pushing. But it sounds like it all worked out and you have a beautiful baby to love on now! Congrats!!
    MF (low motility) - Began stims for IVF#1 7/21/12
    ER 8/2/12 - 14 eggs retrieved, 12 mature and ICSI'd, 6 fertilized. ET 8/7 - 2 embies. Beta#1 8/17: 143! Beta#2 8/20: 590! Beta#3 8/22: 1,162! 1st US 9/4: one beautiful little bean with the best sounding HB I've ever heard!
