Do you consider yourself a "crunchy/granola" person bc you chose to pursue a med free birth?? Why/why not?
When I was delivering Ds in hospital, my OB called me granola bc I declined the epi. It really made me irritated bc it made me feel like I was being dismissed as a "hippie" and wasn't being taken seriously.
But when I decided to have a HB with Dd, one of my MWs was referring to us as crunchy bc of our birth choice to deliver at home. She was wearing a North Face jacket, a Coach purse, and was playing on an iPad That made me giggle bc my vision of crunchy is more of a holistic/pure type person. Just wondering if you consider yourself part of the crunchy group based solely on your birth choices? Or is it a mix of all your choices including food, household products, etc?
Re: Re: Woo. What's your idea of "crunchy?"
I consider myself to fall somewhere in the middle. I think science and medicine are great but I do not think we necessarily need them for everything. Case in point, birth is a natural biological process and does not always need medical inte
I am interested to see some of these replies.
When I was pregnant with DD1, my friends considered me crunchy because we wanted a natural birth, which I don't get how that makes you crunchy. If you looked at the rest of our lives we were
I consider myself and DH semi-crunchy. But like others said, its more because of a combination of lifestyle choices and not just whether or not I got an epidural. I had a med-free labor. We CD, baby wear, did BLW. We recycle almost everything, compost,
I consider myself pretty crunchy not because I am going med-free, but because of my whole philosophy on birth. I think it's kind of rude to call someone crunchy just because they don't want meds. There are so many reasons to not want them -
I am not a crunchy/granola person. My reasoning for wanting a med-free birth are not due to fear of the needle, not because I think it will lead to other interventions, not because I think there will be some huge negative outcome for breastfeeding, not
I do not consider myself crunchy, but to most of the other mothers I know, I am VERY crunchy. I only know a couple other mamas in real life that are crunchier than I am, but it's not a label I give myself.

I do not. because of all the crunchy things out there... Im doing NB only. I'm not CDing, cosleeping, BFing, or anything like that.
Plus my reasons for wanting a natural birth are strange.

I think I sort of lean in the crunchy direction, but I don't think I meet the criteria to be considered 'crunchy'. Had two med-free births, we CD, eat mostly organic foods, I make my own baby food, baby wear, extended BFing, use glass and stainle

I guess I do some "crunchy" stuff...home birth, cloth diapers, some baby wearing, breastfeeding, did not circ, planning to use BLW, sometimes buy organic produce and milk.
BUT, the stuff we don't do is the bigger of the stuff...we ea
Well, one of my prenatal yoga instructors doesn't shave. Anything. That's officially "crunchy".
I really don't get into the heavily emotional end of natural birth culture. Hypno-anything does not appeal. Ina May is just insufferable in her books

Does it count to say I "plan" to be on the "crunchy" side. I plan to baby-wear, to make my own baby food, to do extended BF-ing, to keep things as natural as possible for the birth. I am starting now while I am in the TTC stage to incorporate any life

I don't think my birth choice makes me crunchy...I chose natural birth because of the science. I've read the studies and feel it's most important to be an informed consumer of healthcare. I am pro-vaccine and think modern medicine is awesome when the p
I consider myself somewhere in the middle too.
I will say though, next to some of my friends I'm a huge bag of crunchy granola. Especially if you get my going on the wonders of coconut oil and breastmilk and I talk about my HB. However,

You know, 10 years ago I would have said I'm not crunchy at all. I would have described crunchy as anyone who did things that were not the norm including HB/NB, CD'ing, EBF'ing etc.

It is so funny you asked this! My life up until marriage was pretty preppy...honestly almost the opposite of granola. Now that I've had little man (natural hopsital birth) I have completely gone the other way! At first my friends and I said we were "Ri
