Pregnant after 35

genetic counseling prior to MaterniT21?

I had my first appointment at my doctor's office last week.  I met with the nurse who just went over a lot of information.  At that time, I asked about the MaterniT21 test because I would like to get this test done.   She told me that I would have to go to one of our local hospitals that has a Genetic counseling/testing department.  I would have to meet with someone to talk about our family history and they would give me options for further testing. I am just having a hard time deciding if this is a good decision.  I haven't had any ultrasounds done so it's not like they have seen anything that would indicate further testing.  I'm a worrier by nature so when I heard of the MaterniT21 test I thought that it would give me some peace of mind.

For those of you that have had the MaterniT21 test, did you have to do this first?  Or were you able to just get the test?

Any  help or suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks!

  • My OB's office had recently started offering it to moms over 35, so that is why I did it. If they hadn't been offering it yet, I probably would have just done the nt scan and bloodwork like I did with my previous pregnancies. My doctor did also say I cou

  • I was very happy about getting the MaterniT21. The counselor is not like it sounds - we also said we did not want to meet with anyone, because it would not change our decision, we just wanted to be prepared, but it was very informative and they ask you a

  • Meeting with the genetic counselor is required before the Verifi test at the clinic I attend. The counselor asked me the same questions that my OB had already documented in my clinic chart. Also when we asked questions in any more detail than is alread
