I had my first appointment at my doctor's office last week. I met with the nurse who just went over a lot of information. At that time, I asked about the MaterniT21 test because I would like to get this test done. She told me that I would have to go to one of our local hospitals that has a Genetic counseling/testing department. I would have to meet with someone to talk about our family history and they would give me options for further testing. I am just having a hard time deciding if this is a good decision. I haven't had any ultrasounds done so it's not like they have seen anything that would indicate further testing. I'm a worrier by nature so when I heard of the MaterniT21 test I thought that it would give me some peace of mind.
For those of you that have had the MaterniT21 test, did you have to do this first? Or were you able to just get the test?
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Re: genetic counseling prior to MaterniT21?
