Mobile: 4 week old will not sleep in crib or bassinet
Hello. DD is 4 and a half weeks old and only sleeps if she's being held. If we put her in her crib or bassinet, she wakes within 10 to 15 minutes, day or night. Once or twice she has lasted 30 to 60 minutes but that's definitely not the norm. She sometimes sleeps in her swing for a couple of hours at a time.
So far DH and I have been sleeping in shifts so that one of us is always up to hold her, but we can't keep this up. He is at the end of his rope with sleep deprivation, and I have to go back to work in a few weeks.
We have tried: swaddling, white noise, waiting until we are sure she is sound asleep, and elevating one end of her crib. We're not comfortable bringing her into bed with us.
I know it's normal that a newborn will want/need closeness at first, but how long does this last? When does it stop being normal? How can we transition her to sleeping independently? Anyone else in this situation? I'm so envious of the ladies on here whose LOs are already starting good sleep routines...
