first week of pumping at work - questions

So this was my first week of pumping at work and now that the weekend's almost here I realized I'm not sure how this works.

1 - do I go back to nursing LO on the weekend, or stick to my pumping schedule during the day?  I want to keep my supply up, but its taken a few days for me to get used to going so long between pumps at work (LO likes to eat WAY more often than I can pump at work) and I don't want to have to readjust every Monday...

2 - What about the milk I pump today - do I send that to daycare Monday?  If not, when do I get Monday's milk (maybe that answers the question about pumping over the weekend).  I am pretty sure DC says they can only give BM w/in 48 hours of pumping so I am not sure they'll give her Friday milk on Monday.

TIA for any advice - this is all new to me!

Just an absolute casserole of nonsense.

  • um, wow.

Nursing builds up your supply more than pumping so nurse whenever you can.  yes, Friday's milk goes with on Monday.  Its frozen BM that needs to be used within 48 hours.

  • I also send Fridays milk on Monday. Nursing stimulates supply much better so I nurse on demand on weekends and throw in 2 pumping sessions (just in case I don't pump en

  • Nurse whenever LO wants it and then if he goes more than 3 or 4 hours, try to sneak in a short pumping session in between. If you freeze the milk its good for 3 months at least but once thawed, needs to be used w/in 48 hours.

  • Like PP said, your milk is good for 6-8 days in the fridge so use Friday's milk on Monday.  Nurse on the weekend and go back to pumping at work.  It'll all work out fine in the end.

  • What I do is pump 3-4 times a day during the week (sometimes before work, at lunch & one other time during work hrs. then I pump as soon as I get home). I nurse for the rest of the evening to save that milk for DC the very next day. On weekends, I str

  • thank you all for the advice.  Daycare's 48 hour rule threw me, since I always refrigerate and serve her milk at home according to the longer guidelines.  (and we are required to put the date and time pumped on the bottles there).  I think

  • just nurse LO on demand, you may see a boost in how much you pump  Monday! I usually do...I also send the milk I pump Friday to my mom's (she's our daycare). There's never been a problem with the milk.
