Carseat woes

Ugh I need help. Over the past few days DS has started throwing tantrums when I put him in the car seat. He does the arching the back move and stiff legs, making it impossible to sit him down and get him strapped in. Once I get him buckled and give him a snack or a toy he's fine, but it's an excruciating process trying to get him in there. Any thoughts?

Re: Carseat woes

  • Try making it a game? We rear face in a 2 door car. so putting him into his seat is not the easiest task. So I started making it a game with him. I will sit him on the seat of the car forward facing and do a countdown (1...2....3!!!!) then hoist him up

  • Kind of along the same lines as making it a game...we find that when he doesn't like something if we start making sound effects it's suddenly fun. For example when we are putting on his clothes and he is getting mad we make a sound when his arms come out

  • Dd went through this phase and boy did it suck.

What helped us would be telling her why she had to go in the seat (going shopping, going home, etc). We also played up how it was "Kaylee's seat" to make it special. H would say, "I'm going to sit i

  • DS was doing that quite a bit a few weeks ago. I found that by saying "ok, now we're going to go for a ride. Time to get in your seat" he responded a lot better then when I was just putting him into it without any warning.

  • We went through that with both kids.  We distracted with toys, food, songs, pointing things out around them, whatever worked at that moment.  Sometimes when DS would resist I would take a step back and let him have his fun standing on it and the

  • I'm glad it's not just us!  We're definitely going through a "I don't want to do anything anyone else wants me to do" phase.  And the carseat is a big fight.  Every day.  Every time.  I have been dealing by giving him either my

  • DS does it too. He hates getting strapped down so much that he bangs his head on his seat. I just try to hold him in there with my forearm and buckle & tighten him as quickly as possible. Once he's in and we're moving, he is totally fine.

  • DD does that.  I just keep her relatively straight so that when she gets too tired to hold herself up and plops back down, I can just really quick slide the straps around her arms and snap her in.  She never lasts more than like 20 seconds at a
  • When my guy started doing that we started letting him get into his seat by himself, and we haven't had an issue since.  I open the car door, and let him climb in.  Then he climbs up to the seat.  Next he stands up and leans over his carseat

  • I second PPs ideas of telling DS where we're going and/or giving him a toy.  He recognizes a couple places by name, like "Home", "Uncle J's", "Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner" (if we're eating out), etc.  It gets him more excited to get to the destina
