When can bad sleep habits start?

DS is seven weeks old and my husband is leaving for a month. I want to just bring him in the room with my while my husband is gone because it will make me feel better knowing I can see him and he's right there. He's been sleeping in his crib fine since two weeks old though. Do you think this will make him hate his crib when my husband comes back and we transition him back to his own room?

  • Personally I would invest in a video monitor if you're that worried about being able to see LO. I wouldn't dare ruin the luck you got with him already taking like to his crib.

  • I would find a way to move yourself in there. But know that you will likely awake and react to every grunt...so it may mean less sleep for both of you. Good luck with the month of single parenting...I hope it goes well!!

  • Could you move the crib in your room?  We have our LO in his crib in our room currently.  We plan on moving him to his own room as soon as all of our company leaves.

  • I definitely wouldn't move him.. This is coming from someone who had [well he still is!] a horrible crib sleepe. Why mess up a good thing?

I would sleep in his room if it was important to you.

  • It's hard to tell and it really just depends on the baby. DS1 was in a pnp in our room for 6 months before moving to  his crib in another room and he transitioned without issue from night 1. Hoping the same is true of #2!
  • I do have a video monitor I'm just scared to be here alone and feel better having LO right there with my if anything were to happen. I guess I'll just tough it out though and keep him in his room.

  • My LO is 4 weeks old and keeps us up all. night. long. My advice to you would be don't mess up a good thing! I agree with PPs, either sleep in his room, move the crib in yours, or use a monitor.
