RnP transition - ears help!

LO love love loves her RnP for one simple reason - it has ears on the head-rest. She has always hated being swaddled and frankly doesn't care if she's flat, sideways, on her belly, on her back, or hanging upside down - she'll sleep in any position. The problem is that she will not go to (or stay!) sleep if she doesn't have some sort of fabric on her face. For naps I let her have a blanket and then move it after she's asleep (she likes to suck her blanket-wrapped thumb when she's sleepy). I'm sitting right there and checking on her constantly so I don't mind. But at night, that is not a possibility. In her RnP she's got the ears from the head-rest thingy that she can pull into her mouth/face. It's great because they aren't big enough to pose a risk and they usually "fold" back into place once she falls asleep and lets go. It's also a handy location for when she wakes up in the night and needs to sooth herself back to sleep. The problem is that I cannot for the life of me figure out how to give her the same sort of "security blanket" in her crib. To clarify, she will go to bed in her crib, but she has to already be asleep. And then she usually wakes up about 30-45 minutes later, looks for her ears or other blanket, finds they aren't there and gets upset and wakes totally up. The whole thing has me so frustrated and I guess I'm just looking to hear from anyone else who may possibly have gone through this or something similar. Any thoughts anyone has would be much appreciated. TIA!

  • Can you take the fabric off the rock n play and put it in the crib and just lay LO on top of it to sleep?

  • Carters has velour crib sheets that are fuzzy like the RnP bunny material. I've read in other posts where these sheets have helped with the transition to crib.

  • Aden Anais makes breathable security blankets with a satin trim. That might be helpful since the satin would be soft on her face.

  • What about a sheet saver? You attach it to the crib and you can lay baby's head on it...it lays on top of the fitted sheet. They have soft ones.
