Umbilical hernia

My lo is 7 weeks old and we discovered she has an umbilical hernia once her cord stump fell off. Did anyone else experience this as well? Even though from what I understand it isn't a big deal, it surprised me because I hadn't heard about it in the past. I read that children of African descent are more likely to have one.

    DS belly button protrudes but isn't technically a hernia because there is nothing there but air under the skin.  The Dr. Said that it is because there is a space between his muscles that will strengthen and  grow together over the course of the

    LO2 has a small one.  The pedi said they generally fix themselves by age 3, but if it doesn't they can do surgery if it's large.  He said for as small as LO's is, it will probably fix itself and surgery on it would be for cosmetic reasons onl

    DD2 has a small one. It was alarming when she was teeny (to me, not the doc). It keeps getting smaller and now at 2.5, I have a hard time seeing or feeling it. Your pedi should monitor it, but like you said, probably not a big deal.

    DD had one that the pedi noticed as soon as her umbilical cord fell of. She's 12 weeks today and you can't even see it anymore.

    Married to DH 10.29.11

    DD born 1.26.13
    DS born 6.12.14
    #3 due 12.6.16

    My DD had one and by 6 months it was barely noticeable, by 9 months it was gone completely. 

    They usually fix themselves, but if they haven't by the time they are 3-4 years old it's a quick surgery.

    DS has one.  He's almost 3 and now it's just an "outtie" belly button and probably always will be if we don't have it surgically fixed (which I'm sure we won't at this point).  It was pretty big.  My friend's kid had one that was atleast
