Labial Frenectomy

Audra had her labial frenectomy this morning and did really well! At the pediatric dentist we go to they take the children downstairs and the parents wait in the waiting room. I knew she was on her way back up because I recognized her whiny whimpers. It didn't take them long at all and she didn't seem to be in any pain afterwards. Within 5 minutes of being in the car she was over being whiny and back to her goofy babbling self. I don't believe it causes any pain but I did give her Tylenol about an hour before the procedure.

I have to pull her lip up 2-3 times a day to prevent reattachment and apply vitamin E oil from a capsule to aid in healing. Right now her gum looks really red with some dried blood but it doesn't seem to bother her at all. Her lip did start to swell a few hours after the procedure and was swollen again before bed so I gave her some Ibuprofen to help bring the swelling down. We have a follow up appointment in 1 week to make sure everything healed okay. The dentist gave me his cell phone number and told me to text him over the weekend if anything wasn't right.

I am so happy to have had this problem taken care of and if anyone else's LO needs this done-- do not worry! :)

    Did you see Dr. Kotlow? We traveled from Philly to see him, he's the best! We took DS when he was 7 months for a lip and tongue tie revision as well as my 4 yr old.

    One more question. Did you know in advance you were seeing the best? If not, you got lucky! He is the one that is training all the others. Most dentists will tell you this can wait or eventually it will rip on its own. They do not know what they are

    Awesome!! We are still so happy with C's labial frenectomy, done with scalpel so that the ENT could preserve the length of her already fairly short upper lip. It healed so fast with no reattachment, and we only needed two or three doses of ibuprofen total
