Flat spot

I just noticed that my LO is getting a flat spot on the back of his head. Any one elese dealing with this? I change his postion frequently and he is held a good part of the day but I will admit I am afraid of sleeping him any other way then on his back because of the whole SIDs thing. Should I start side sleeping?

  • I think as long as you leave out the arm of the side you lay him on side sleeping is a good option.
  • Our DS has a slight flat spot too which I'm just amazed because we hold him so much. We've been putting him to sleep on his sides, he always ends up back on his back...but I figured for at least a few hours he isn't resting on it. We also do tummy time

  • Also (I'm not sure if this is what you mean by changing position) but if his crib is against the wall you can try putting him to bed with his head at the other end of the crib. Babies naturally turn their head to look out of the crib.

  • I just wanted to add that small flat spots are normal.  Babies spend so much time sleeping and it's kind of a side-effect of the recommendation for them to always sleep on their backs.  The real issue is when they REALLY have a flat head, that's
