Special Needs

Met the kindergarten/grade school team today.

DH and I had DD1's kindergarten transition meeting this morning.

Jeez. The room was packed. It made me think of that thing posted earlier this week that typical moms deal with a teacher, SN moms deal with a team. SLP, school psychologist, OT, SpEd teacher, classroom teacher, plus the preschool SLP was there to facilitate and the principal stopped in. And me and DH. It's going to take me all year to remember all those names, lol.

They were all really nice and professional, and I think we're going to like them as much as we've liked our preschool team. The psych especially made a good impression. But it was definitely a reminder that things are different for DD1 and for us.

We heard more on the ASD lab. Which apparently is more for kids with behavioral issues as well as social ones, which DD1 really doesn't have (::crossing fingers::), and they don't typically make a call on lab involvement until first grade, not kindergarten. Hopefully we won't need it, but it's so reassuring to have it if we do. And b/c they have the lab, they also all have access to Michele Garcia Winner resources and that's the approach the school psych in particular will be using to support DD1, which I'm very happy about.
