Babies: 3 - 6 Months

gas drops still? (x-posted)

My baby boy was born in January and is now 3 months old. He was incredibly gassy so we have been using gas drops and probiotics since he was a month old.  The gas drops help immensely!  I'm wondering when we can stop using them?  I tried feeding without gas drops over the weekend and it didn't go well....lots of gas and crying which we haven't had for 6 weeks or more.  When do babies outgrow gas?

  • I have no idea if/when babies "outgrow" gas, but our LO has improved in leaps and bounds from when he was so small.  We still do (homemade) gripe water in every bottle, and that really helps in terms of breaking down the gases.  But just on his

  • He's almost 7 months and we still use gas drops at every single feeding. He doesn't have horrible gas or anything, but I do notice he's fussier if we go without them for a few feedings. We'll probably just continue using them, since it's NBD to squir

  • IIRC, we weaned DS down to gas drops for bedtime/MOTN only around 2.5-3 months, then to just bedtime by 3 months, then stopped completely by 3.5 months.

  • I still use gas drops and DS is 6 months old. I actually lost the bottle of it, so we haven't been giving him any (but he's been doing fine without it), but I'd like to find it again, just in case.

DS is only 3.5 months now, but we still have to give them in each bottle.  I skipped 2 doses over this past weekend when I was nursing him, and he was miserable.

  • 5 months and still using gas drops. We make sure to at least do the first and last bottle of the day. I don't feel like he needs them as much now so sometimes I'll just give him a couple of bottles without it and then if he seems like he has discomfort fr
