When are you telling friends, employer?

We are at 6 weeks and new parents-to-be, very excited! We are hesitant to tell anyone anything, even though we've been to our first appointment. When are the newbies planning on talking about the great news?  We couldn't help to tell our parents already, but we felt that was a low risk.

Re: When are you telling friends, employer?

  • I told my boss pretty early both times, but we are pretty close. I also wanted to make sure he knew so that I wasn't lifting really heavy items. Also,  I was really sick early on this time and ended up missing work. I think it is up to you and your comfort level.

  • Oh and Congratulations! :)
  • Currently 21 weeks and besides my supervisor and one of the director's in my department no one knows. I told my boss early on when I found out because my pregnancy is high risk due to pre-existing hbp and I was having problems with sleep and all day nausea. Even with rx meds for n/v I still had problems and would find my self in the bathroom several times a week at work. My boss was aware in case any emergency happend ie: preterm labor, severe cramps etc...I can just leave and not have to explain my situation. Our department is majority women so she knows about the issues every pregnancy offers. Congratulations!

  • I'm almost 7 weeks.  We have told parents, grandparents and siblings, and some aunts and uncles because of timing with the holidays.  We have told some really close friends (the ones we see all the time and my behavior was starting to be suspicious - no drinking at all the holiday festivities, not wanting to go out late).  My husband has started telling more of his friends but I'm still nervous about contacting my close friends and haven't told work.  I have another appt. scheduled at 8 weeks, and I think if everything goes well at that appt. I am going to tell my manager and start to slowly contact more of my friends.  I haven't been sick, so I haven't felt like I needed to tell anyone at work yet because it isn't affecting my ability to do my job.

  • Congrats! We didn't tell anyone until after the first trimester. I found it was actually fun having a secret! But, I was also excited to tell everyone once we hit 13 weeks. (-=

  • I'm 5 weeks and I haven't really told anyone yet other than my sister. Once I have my first appointment to confirm then I will tell my boss and family.

  • At the 3 month mark! We've miscarried before so we're glad we didn't spread the word as soon as we found out. Waiting 3 months should give you and your doctor enough time to make sure everything with your pregnancy is going fine.
