NBR: Shark Steam mop

I love my Shark steam mop, but I think it bit the dust.  It no longer makes steam, although the unit still makes noises and gets very hot.

I called Shark and the CS rep told me a few things I could try, none of which worked.  She said they could send me a new one for like $48, which is not a bad price, but I am annoyed that this thing didn't even last 2 years!

Has this happened to anyone else? Is it worth getting another one, or should I look into a different brand?

  • I had seen my deteriorate when I stopped using distilled water in it. Were you using tap or distilled? I just got lazy and then we moved into a home with travertine flooring and I stopped using it... So I don't know how long it would have lasted.

  • I was using tap water, which I was told was a big no-no. :-(

  • That's so weird! The same thing happened to us. It stopped working. My parents grabbed us one at costco last night because we are showing the house today and needed to steam the floor. I'll use distilled from now on, thanks!

  • If the issue is tap vs. distilled water, you can de-calcify the pieces. The problem is probably build-up in the steam vents. Husband fixed ours by taking it apart and cleaning out the holes.
