Babies: 6 - 9 Months

8mo nothing but purees

My little girl is 8 months old and from what I read could be having "finger foods" (this suprised me. For some reason in my head I thought she'd be on purees till a year.... but then she couldn't have her first cake!) However I've been terrified to try any. She's been eating a variety of foods through her purees, including poultry. I tried the "textures" baby food and she gagged, so we put that to the side. (She'll gag when she doesn't like something, too, like pureed peas).

Anyone have tips, encouragement or stories for a first time mom? Should I wait or should I start introducing things? What are some mom-stress-free things to start with?

  • I have no suggestions, because I'm actually in the same boat. Glad to see someone else gets it too!

  • I'm a first time mom and was the afraid to try anything besides purees, but one day I got up the courage to try some new things. It has been going great so far.  I started with the puffs I didn't give him a whole one I broke it into tiny pieces and h

  • I'd start with puffs.  I feel more comfortable with them since they dissolve.  Then work your way towards regular food.  I've been giving DS small pieces of fruit.  It's small enough that he can just swallow it if he forgets to chew it

  • I have no tips since this is my DS too! I tried the stage 3 foods that have a little bit of texture and he gags and spits it out! I totally understand your frustration!
I tried giving him a baby rice cake yesterday and he did take a bite but spit i

  • I have an 8 month old DD and has been on baby food for awhile now. Eats baby food 3 times a day. We did try her on the textured foods and she didn't really give to it that well. She would gag or have a hard time swallowing it. We held off on

  • you could give her some pulled turkey or chicken (like little pieces) or cut up a string cheese into tiny pieces and give it to her, same thing with soft fruit like a bananna

  • We're 8 months next week and in the same boat.  We have been giving a few puffs with every puree, and he clearly likes "feeding" himself.  A couple of times we've substituted the puree for a fresh banana or avocado mashed up.  I also put so
  • Those rice crackers, the giant circle ones made by quaker oats are GREAT finger foods. They dissolve just like puffs, and my LO much preferred them over puffs. We would just break them in half and let her go to town. They were too think for her to take la

  • Thank you all! My brother in law had organic rice cereal... which act like the puffs evidently because they dissolve as soon as they get wet. I figured I'd start out puree time with about 3 on her table. Today she made faces and coughed and acted like she
