Twins born @ 26 weeks

Hi everyone, Im looking for a little advice:  A very close friend of mine just had twins born at 26 weeks.  One weighs 2.1 lbs and the other 2.5 lbs.  She is still in the hospital on bed rest and I haven't been able to talk to her or her family yet.  I want to get/do something for her but have no idea where to start.  I have children of my own, including a newborn and know none of the regular stuff will be of much use to her right now.  I have heard things such as gas cards (she lives very close to the hospital so thats not really necessary) making meals/house cleaning (I live 3 hours away but am looking into hiring someone to help her.)

What things did you find invaluable while your babies were still in the NICU or when they first came home? Any suggestions welcome, I want to do all that I can for her, she is one of the most amazing, kind people I know and has only ever wanted to have children.

Thanks!

  • Meals and house cleaning would be great. If she has other kids, help with them would be good too. I've also recieves a lot of subway gift cards which is nice to grab something fast and healthy.

She also just needs your support but don't be u

  • Maybe set up a MealBaby registry so friends and family can buy GCs or sign up to bring meals? Tell her to leave a cooler outside for food, as chances are she won't be home or not up to chatting with visitors just yet. I know I wasn't most of our NICU stay

  • If you know one of her "vices", for example, chocolate, include that in a care package. My biggest vice is Starbucks, and I truly needed the five minute escape from the NICU each day to go and get one with gift cards that friends had purchased for us, or

  • Are there any restaurants in the hospital? Gift cards for those places would be good. And honestly just plain old visa gift cards have helped us a ton. We use them for the cafeteria, gas, pay bills, etc. GL to your friend!
