CA Maternity Leave?

Is anyone familiar with the laws surrounding PDL in CA? I work for a small employer, so I am aware that FMLA will not apply.

My boss emailed me today asking how much time I planned on taking off. I told him prebaby I will work up until my Dr. advises otherwise. Postdelivery I will be taking 6 weeks if normal delivery, more if Csection. His response to that was he doesn't really want to hire a temp worker to cover my position, so we could work something out where "if I wanted to stay home with the baby" I could work from home for 4 or 6 weeks...

Um no i do not want to work from home while i should be 1 recovering from childbirth, 2 bonding with my baby, and 3 adjusting to being a mother. Needless to say, I did not respond yet, as it would not have been a very positive response.

My understanding is that I am entitled to at least 6 weeks paid SDI, but I am not so clear on how the employer must honor the PDL.

Any ideas? I don't want to address this until I have the facts.

Thank you!
