Zyrtec?

Has anyone taken Zyrtec during your pregnancy?  I went to my PCP last night for bad cold symptoms and tightness in my chest, and she said it was probably from allergies and prescribed Zyrtec.  I have never had trouble with allergies before, so I'd never taken Zyrtec, and my first dose made me pretty drowsy.  Today, I've noticed that my baby is very quiet.  I have felt him move a couple of times over the course of the day, so I haven't called my OB yet, but it is definitely less movement than usual for him.  If he doesn't perk up this evening, I'll skip tonight's dose and call the OB in the morning, but I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this after taking Zyrtec?

  • I've never taken Zyrtec while pregnant, but I know it knocks my sister out when she takes it, kinda like me with Benadryl. Just an FYI, lo is probably sleeping like 1214 hrs these days, so the lack of movement may be just that. Maybe try some juice and se

  • I have horrible allergies and asked my OB about taking Zyrtec and he said it was fine. I think he said there is more risks of negatives effects on the fetus before 12 weeks.

I feel my baby alot and then all of a sudden days go by and I dont fe

  • My doc said Zyrtec is fine...just told to stay away from decongestants. I'm not taking it on a daily basis, but feel more confident on my REALLY bad seasonal allergy days. A doc in the same practice also gave mg sister the thumbs up for it.
  • Zyrtec is fine to take during pregnancy. I take it every night but usually take half a tablet bc it makes me too drowsy.
  • I take it every day. Not the D though!! It doesn't make me drowsy at all.

  • My doc told me to stay away from it. My allergies have been going absolutely crazy!!! She said Claritin is ok. Try using that.
  • My OB said that Zyrtec was perfectly fine. I have been taking it every day since he told me that a couple of weeks ago. It is making allergy season a much happier time!

  • Thanks for the advice ladies!  Baby did start kicking a bit after dinner.  I'll probably try a half tablet tonight to see if that will keep me comfortable without knocking us both out!

  • I've taken Zyrtec every single day of my life for at least the last 10 years including throughout my pregnancy. All of my doctors said its safe. I take it before bed and can't say that it ever makes me drowsy during the day.

  • I took Zyrtec through the last month or so of my last pregnancy and while breastfeeding.

It's safe. It works. It's non-sedating, so I really doubt it's making you or baby tired. Benedryl is what knocks people out (but it's also safe).

  • i took Zyrtec my last pg and am on it for this pg.
  • I started taking Zyrtec last week and had the same problem with drowsiness, so I switched to non-drowsy Claritin. My OB said it was fine; she also discouraged using decongestants except for Sudafed PE.
