adult birthday parties

As an adult, do you want/expect a party for your birthday? I like recognition that it's my birthday, but could care less about a party. DH turns 30 on Friday and we are driving up to see his parents. His mom has asked me multiple times if I am throwing him a party at some point. DH doesn't want one, he doesn't care. But MIL acts like I am a horrible wife. She keeps suggesting things for me to do for him. I am tempted next time to say as long as he gets cake and sex, he doesn't need a party.

Re: adult birthday parties

  • Prior to having P, we always did birthday parties. Now, a simple dinner will do.

  • It seems in my circle that people do parties for the big birthdays - turning 30, 40, or 50. DH threw me an awesome party for my 30th and we've mentioned doing a cocktail party in our yard for our 40th (which is still 5 years away) together since we're

  • I plan on going somewhere Friday night for dinner, and maybe have a date Saturday while MIL watches DD. I've told him I would throw him a party and he says no. And I really don't want one when I turn 30.

  • Last year we had a BBQ for my 30/DH's 35-not a big party, more of an excuse to have people over. Neither of us would expect the other to throw us one, it just seemed like a good idea.

  • We do, especially for the big numbers like 30, but that is us.

  • I threw H a big 30th and he threw me a giant surprise 30th. I will probably throw him a big 40th in a few years.

For other birthdays we usually just do dinner together, maybe with our families. I have a small group of girlfriends who get toge

  • We usually do a party at my Dad's house for whoever's birthday it is.  "Party" meaning we all get together and at least have cake and some snacks. Just our family, but that's like 30 people.

I like to see my friends to celebrate, but usually

  • Eh - I would LOVE to have a big party with people telling me how awesome I am every year of my life.  But I never get one!  Well, I have, but they've been very few and far between since the age of 7.

I do throw DH a birthday "party" eve

  • For a 30th I'd have a party. Why can't his mom throw him a party if she wants one?
  • I don't really celebrate. We may do dinner or go to the movies kid free. The big milestone ones we will celebrate. My attention whore SIL throws herself a big bash every year and at 42 years old, invites everyone she has ever met from the age of kindergar

  • My rule of thumb: once you become an adult, you only get a party for milestone birthdays 21,30,40,etc. Having your SO take you out for dinner is ok...just don't expect people to all get together and throw a party. What really irks me is that it seems tha

  • Dh threw me a surprise party for my 30th, but it wasn't a huge event. It was friends only, and at our house. Other than that we don't do parties. Back in the day we did dinner with friends, or in our younger party days we would have a big bar/club night.
  • I'm not a party person, I'd rather spend the money on a fancy dinner and piece of jewelry.
