Food for baby

Dd has been grabbing our food a lot. Today she stuck her hand in my yogurt and sucked it all off. Yesterday she grabbed a carrot off of my plate. I took it away and she flipped. I'm thinking she thinks she's ready to try food, but everyone is all gung ho about the six month thing lately. Her pedi told me that I can start at any time now and to use my discretion since I know her best. What would you do?

Re: Food for baby

  • Hmmmm...  I'm kind of with your doc on this one.  Some babies are ready for things earlier.  My pedi told me that holding off on food was done for a few reasons besides the allergy issue: a six-month-old baby is typically more ready to b

  • I'd give her a plastic spoon to play with and wait until 6 months to put food on it.

  • We started food. Just cereal but she enjoys it and we don't do it every day. I'd say try it with something that has a low likelyhood of allergies.

  • If she's acting ready, you could try a couple of things and see how it goes. You could always continue or stop based on that.

  • I was going to wait until the 6 month mark but this week Connor seems really interested in food as well. If he was sitting on my lap while I tried to eat he was opening his mouth like a baby bird and trying to get some. I mashed some avocado on Tuesday

  • I think most say when they can sit with little to no assistance, have no tongue thrust and are reaching for food. I'm waiting til 6 months because I want to do BLW, but if I was doing pur?es I'd start whenever she showed readiness.

  • I'd start with pure or semisolids like the yogurt she was so keen on. I've noticed DS starting to watch us when we eat or drink now. He's not reaching for the food but he's studying us and trying to figure out what we are doing. He started opening his mou

  • I've been thinking of starting Elli on some solids. She's been grabbing at me food and trying to get something in her mouth, I usually snatch it before she does. We have her 4 month appointment next week so I'll see what the doctor says.

  • I agree with PP, if your Dr. is ok with it then they obviously have assessed your child and determined that she appears ready enough to try things.

I asked my pediatrician at our appointment  about food and since my LO was just s

  • We tried some avocado tonight. She didn't try to push it out and really seemed to like it. She complained when it was gone, she had a total of about one teaspoon. I think I'll give it again in a few days. Maybe 2 to 3 times a week for now, just so she doe
