Contractions?

Im so confused.  So I assumed I have been having BH contractions for the past couple of weeks.  They were way down low though.  Well today I am feeling some stretching stuff sorta like that but up high at the top of my tummy.  It started after I drank a crap load of ice water so i was also thinkin it was baby pushing around.  Can someone explain or give me an idea of what a contraction feels like?  Is it sorta like a stretching feeling where your whole tummy sorta freezes up?  Everything I read and all that the doctor tells me, i still am not sure what Im supposed to be feeling.

Re: Contractions?

  • When they first started only part of my stomach felt hard as a rock. It would just tighten up and then loosen. But it was only on one side. For a day and a half I really thought it was just that the baby was getting so big he was pushing up against one side of my belly really hard. But then they put me on the monitor and they were contractions. I had always thought that my whole stomach would feel rock hard, but it wasn't that way until later. Sounds like they could be contractions if your stomach is feeling hard.

  • My contractions felt like really bad menstrual cramps. Started off bearable, then got gradually worse pretty quickly. What you are describing sounds more like BH contractions to me -- the tightening of the uterus. (I had BH from 20 weeks on but didn't go into labor until 39w 2d.) I also had some lower cramps, which my OB said was normal.

    Hope this helps!

  • great question. i've been wondering the same thing. for some reason i'm afraid i'm not going to know when i get them, but everyone says i will. my ob said real contractions fee like cramps down low. and i've heard you'd also feel them more in your back?? i think i've been having some, but not really anything painful.

i think what you're describing sounds more like BH. at least that's what mine felt like and i assumed they were BH as well. it is really hard to differenciate between the baby pushing and BH/contractions.

  • ditto Ruby.

BH for me were more of the tightening feeling.  True contractions were menstrual cramp-ish that went from really bad to REALLY bad pretty fast...

Sounds like you're having BH to me - I had them from about 30 weeks on and delivered at 40 weeks, 2 days.

    HTH!
