Babies: 6 - 9 Months

for those who make their own baby food

I currently make all of DS's baby food with our baby bullet and today our pedi suggested that we start introducing beans and red meat. I was just wondering what types of beans and what types of red meat. Also how would I go about making the red meat into baby food?

  • We don't eat red meat but I plan on offering ground turkey or chicken to him the next time we make some. I'd do the same with red meat, but mostly because the idea of pureed meat sounds gross to me.

The first meat DS1 had was shredded chicken ou

  • So do I just cook the meat and then puree it? We rarely eat meat in my home besides chicken and I am not even sure how to do this for a baby

  • By beans do you mean legumes or green beans? I've made great northern beans for DD - soak overnight with lemon juice, cook for 2 hours next day and I mix them with a veggie or meat. (puree of course)

As far as meat, I've only given chicken twice

  • I would do lentils, and plan to. I don't plan to feed DD meat at all until she's old enough to show a desire to eat it. I don't know how to cook it (never have in my life), and we don't keep it in the house. Also, it's just not nutritionally necessary.<br
  • I used to make black beans and rice for DS. You could kind of mash it up so it's more blended. I never pureed meat, so DS didn't get chicken until he could eat tiny pieces of it.

  • I cook the chicken, then pulse it in the baby bullet. Just enough to shred it. I don't add water or make it 'puree' really. I then mix it in rice cereal and she enjoys it. As for red meat, I'd probably brown the ground beef then mash it in with rice or so

  • I poach the chicken then puree it in my baby bullet. But it taste nasty by its self so I add some fruits or veggies with it.

  • I am curious about this as well. DH is a vegetarian, so we never have red meat in our house. He is a SAHD and will be doing most of LO's feedings. Personally, I'm okay with just sticking a piece of steak in a mesh bag and letting DS gnaw on it, but DH loo
