Toddlers: 24 Months+

Cleaning up

Am I expecting too much  from my 3 yo in that I think she should help pick up her toys during the day...all I ever get is "I can't"  I have resorted to taking away toys cause I am sick of them littering my living room all day long...HELP!!

  • We have found that keeping most toys out of reach has been really helpful, so in order for DD to get a new toy basket she must first clean-up whatever is out.  I almost always help her, we call it 'team work' and sometimes sing a fun song while we wo

  • My 3 year old DS helps clean up at home and school. His teachers do comment though that he's one of the few kids who is good at helping. One thing we found helpful is instead of saying "let's clean up all of these toys", we focus on one thing at a time

  • DS is used to helping clean up from DC, but we always sing the clean-up song, help him, and try to turn it into a game (who can find all the red legos, who can clean the fastest, etc.).  He also knows we have to put away one thing before we take out
