Wine at a baby shower?

While planning my baby shower, my mom wanted to know if there could be wine at the shower. Didn't bother me at all, but it dawned on me what other people might think. I've never been to a baby shower with wine, but then again I've only been to a handful. We also decided to have "preggatinis" for me and the younger family members. Is it "trashy" to have wine? Am I thinking way too into it?

  • I have never heard of this.

  • Wine is a staple in my relationships with many of my girlfriends.  No need to outlaw it because I can only drink N/A Champagne/mimosas.  I think it totally comes down to personal preference.
  • I think you find alcohol less often at a baby shower than a bridal shower, likely because the MTB can't drink, but I don't think having wine or a champagne punch at a baby shower is inappropriate as long as the guest of honor doesn't have an issue wi

  • Depends on your group. I have family members who would refuse to come even if we used wine bottles as decoration, so it's a no go for us. Plus, i'm not a fan of serving something that not everyone can partake in.

  • We had wine at our baby shower with my first and probably will with this one as well. I agree with pp as long as its ok with you.
  • I say do what makes you happy. We'll be having a coed shower with our local friends and there will be wine and beer. I'm not at all concerned with what others think. I've been to showers with and without and never thought twice about it

  • I don't think there's anything wrong with wine at a baby shower. It's a  celebration with your family and friends. My family has wine at all gatherings, it doesn't turn into a wild night. As long as it doesn't bother you. I love the idea of "preggati
  • Personally I would say no, mostly because I would be super jealous. I love mimosas and wouldn't want to have to sit there with just punch or water. We had mimosas and bellinis at my bridal shower.

  • We had wine and beer at my shower for DS - it was co-ed, though.  I don't see why it would be trashy.

I am having my shower at a winery. Alochol is definitely ok as long as there are sober drivers and it is acceptable in your social circle.
  • I have been to and hosted a ton of baby showers.  We always have booze, either wine or mimosas.  I am actually hosting one for my SIL this weekend and we will be serving both wine and a yummy punch that we will have proseco on the side so people

  • I see no problem with it, but I am having a co-ed shower with a full bar.  Even the most genteel showers I have been to have had champagne or mimosas at them.  Mine's just going to have Jager also :)

  • I think its more than appropriate to have wine at the shower. The only alcohol I would side eye at a baby shower would be a keg or maybe some jello shots lol.

  • I think it depends on he group. We pretty much always have wine at any function in my family. But I will say I went to a shower 6ish weeks ago and the game prize was wine, I didn't know until I won. My MIL joked about how I am so competitive and i won som

  • I didn't have any at my first one, but I've been to a ton of showers, coed and female only, where alcohol was served. Seemed fine to me. So I definitely plan on having at least wine at mine this time around.
