Trouble TTC

Back at this - clomid question

Hello, all.  I haven't been on the bump in FOREVER, so sorry if I seem new to you all - I probably am!

I have a history of losses and then had a little girl 2 years ago after severe preeclampsia.  We had been TTC for several months but no success.  I had to use clomid for my girl and went to my doctor this week for my yearly and my doctor suggested clomid again.  I'm fine with it.

Here is my question.  I went to my doctor on day 7 of my cycle and she started me on clomid even though it was past day 5 (she typically gives it days 5-9).  She did that because my cycles are well over 60 days long (sometimes much longer) each time and it could literally be months before we can start clomid again.  I am currently day 9 of my cycle with 2 days after today to take it.  I started OPKs today and got a positive.

I have used OPKs in the past and had no real solid success.  I'm not sure how much weight to put into this.  Also, should I stop clomid?  Does it hurt to take clomid if I do happen to ovulate in the next 24-48 hrs?  I really am overwhelmed.  Sorry if that was rambling...I look forward to getting to know you all and am excited to be back on this board!

Re: Back at this - clomid question

  • You should be monitored by ultrasound while taking clomid, not relying on OPKs.  Clomid can cause serious side effects such as giant cysts and thinning your linning to the point that it would be impossible for implantation to take place.  Also c

  • Hmm sounds all a bit complicated - perhaps give your doctor a call and she can explain her thinking and possibly advise you accordingly. Glad to hear it worked the first time.

  • I'm with the others on this.. OPKs aren't reliable while on clomid. Rely on the ultrasound monitoring that your doctor should be doing! Good luck. I'm in the same clomid boat right now... Which boards are out there for this stage?
