Anyone else got a giant baby in there?

I went for another growth ultrasound this morning (they wanted to measure him again because at 31 weeks he was already measuring 5 lbs) - at 36 weeks he's close to 8 pounds and has a 40 week head! (ayayay, if he makes it full term say a prayer for my vag).

Just curious if anyone else has a similar sized baby and what your doctor has said about it, if anything? I will see my doc on Monday, but the ultrasound tech speculated that, given his size, the doctor will probably want to induce at 39 weeks if he has not already come.

  • Mine is estimating 6.5 lbs at 36 weeks, but I will be sending positive thoughts and vibes to your vag!

  • had an ultrasound at 34 weeks yesterday and she's 5lbs 13oz....and in the 83rd percentile! They didn't really say much except that she's growing well and is healthy.
  • My baby's head is measuring three weeks ahead as well among other things. Given that and my small size my doctor said if it were him, he would induce next week at 39 weeks so that is what we are doing!

  • I'm right there with you! At my 36 week growth ultrasound, she was estimated at 7lb9oz to 7lb11oz with a 39-40 week head circumference.  The doctor said the estimate can be 1/2-1 lb off and she'll probably be around the same size DS was (8lb 8.3oz at

  • At 34 weeks LO measured two weeks ahead, weighing in at 6lbs 3oz.  My doctor didn't seem concerned at all... but said we'll keep an eye on things to make sure s/he doesn't get too large for a vaginal delivery.  She's just been watching my weight

  • At 37 weeks they estimated 7.5 lbs and said he'd probably gain .5 lb per week. :/
  • Did they give you another growth ultrasound? I had one Friday and for the second time she was measuring four weeks ahead.. I was 35 weeks and she was measuring 8lbs 6oz! 98 percentile! I have another ultrasound on May 1st.. If she is still measuring that

  • They can't really tell how much the baby weighs, they can estimate. My sister's "huge" baby was under 9lbs. They wanted to induce her as well but she wouldn't do it. One of her babies was over 10 lbs and even with that baby there was no problem.nbsp; <br
  • At my 36 week u/s she was estimated to be at 5 lb 14oz in the 40th percentile. I know they can be off but just know that your body is amazing! Sometimes it can just be the way the baby is positioned too.
  • At 35 weeks they were estimating this kid was 7 1/2 lbs.  So if I go until my due date this kid may very well be over 9 lbs.  My doctor didn't seem concerned, and since I was over 9 lbs I am not overly concerned.  I just hope I don't go lat

  • My baby at 33 weeks was measuring 36 weeks, my doctor is going to keep an eye on that at my next appointment. Praying things go smoothly for you!

  • Dear Lord.  Prayers for you and your vag.  ;-)  Our body's are made to do amazing things.  Try not to stress, although I'm sure that would be nearly impossible.

  • One of my twins was measuring over 6.5 pounds at 36 weeks, but they told me the estimates at that point are up to 1 pound off either direction.  The perinatologist also told me they tend to overestimate.  I guess time will tell how accurate they

  • I wonder if it's possible that all these big babies went through a growth spurt which makes them appear large for where you are in pregnancy, but if it evens out over time so they don't really get that much bigger in the end?

  • I've just heard so many stories of the doctors saying the baby will be huge, and that not being the case, that I'd take it with a grain of salt (I am having a 36 week u/s, to, as the perinatologist told me, make sure I'm not having a "National Enquirer

I feel like I'm the only one who HASN'T been told a growth/weight estimate. None of the doctors at the OB I go to have ever said that she was measuring at XX weeks or that they think she is XX pounds. I'll be hitting 37 weeks this Saturday-- they say e

  • Almost the same situation here. Had an appt yesterday at 33w6d and he was measuring about 6 lb 2 oz. Big baby! but no one said anything about it hindering a vaginal delivery so I'm not too worried.

  • I have my growth u/s tomorrow, but I can already say with certainty this baby is big! I've had all big babies, and they say each baby gets a little bigger. This has proven true for me so far.

But I would never agree to early induction based on th

  • Yikes, I was told at 31 weeks DS was measuring about 4.5 pounds...so I'm very worried to find out what he is now...I have a feeling he's going to be a big boy and not fit in NB things..sending good vibes for your vag!

  • I've never really been told estimates, and the doc said that unless he is concerned about something he dosent do growth ultrasounds.   I'm glad there hasnt been a reason to have any, but I kind of feel left out of the guessing game ;-)
