J is back at school this week and finally getting back to his normal self. I'd say he started turning the corner on Thursday evening, almost a week post-op, and by Sunday he was so restless to get out of the house that we took him to the zoo for a few hours. The only lingering effect now is that he has neck pain, especially when he wakes up from a nap. That was to be expected, they said it was from the position his head was in during the procedure.
He started back to school yesterday but it was a rough day, when I picked him up he had an epic meltdown and it took 30 full minutes to get him to stop screaming and look me in the eye. I think it was just sensory overload from being back around all those kids. Hopefully he'll continue to improve and as his neck gets better we'll get back in the groove.
One tiny silver lining to all of this - no more paci! He didn't use it for a few days because he was so congested he couldn't breathe through his nose, so we just made them all go bye-bye. The only time I gave him one in the past four days was during his meltdown to try and get him to calm down, other than that he's only asked for it once or twice. How nice to not have to go crawling around in the dark in the middle of the night to find one!
Finally, I just wanted to say THANK YOU to all of you for your support. This hasn't been very much fun, and without family here to help it can get pretty isolating. You ladies are the very best!
Re: An update on J
Phew - what a bunch of craziness you've had! I'm so glad he's finally feeling better and you both can get back to your normal routine. Yay for no more paci!
