XP: ASQ-3 development questionaire

LO's daycare uses this questionnaire to evaluate the infants twice a year and they are currently doing evaluations right now. Today, they sent me home with the questionnaire because they are concerned about his hearing/communication skills.

We had noticed that sometimes, it take a couple times for us to call his name before he turns and looks or responds but usually it's when he is really concentrated on something it seems like. We know he hears us because he responds when I sing to him and to my husbands guitar. They didn't tell us specific concerns because they wanted us to go through the questionaire at home unbiasedly.

The thing on the 6 month questionnaire that he doesn't do at all yet is use sounds like "ba" "da" "ga" and "ka". He only sometimes looks in our direction when we call him when we are out of sight, only sometimes turns towards a loud noise and only sometimes repeats the sounds we make when we copy his sounds.

I don't think he has hearing problems but I'm not a professional so I don't know. Could he just be slower at developing communication skills or could there be something else going on? Anyone have any experience with this or advice for us?

I would talk to your pedi for sure about it. Can't hurt and I'd want to know for my piece of mind.
