Does anyone do NST regularly?

At my OB appointment today, I mentioned that sometimes I get a little stressed out when the baby has slower/quiet days. I had felt a ton of movement this morning but the nurse put me on a fetal monitor for a 20-minute NST which came back great. I expressed to my OB that now that I'm getting closer to the due date I do have days where I feel nervous about movement even though I do kick counts and she tends to be most active in the evening and at night. My OB ordered weekly NST for me. I asked her if she thought it was too much for me since I'm not a high-risk pregnancy but she said that it's never a bad idea to monitor for fetal movement especially if I have days where she seems to be more quiet. I do have an MTHFR mutation but that's my only real risk factor in pregnancy that I know of. Does anyone else do these? It will just be 20 mins once a week for me for the next 6 weeks. I think it will provide me with a lot of reassurance, I was just surprised she ordered it since I have some days where the baby is having a dance party in there and other days where she seems to slow down a lot.

Re: Does anyone do NST regularly?

  • I have my 36 week appointment on Wednesday and I will have one there. I was told I need to arrive 45 minutes prior to my appointment for it. I will then have one every week going forward until the baby is born. I think mine has to do with my age. I am 35.

  • My doctor's policy is to do them at every visit starting at around 30 weeks, regardless of if the pregnancy is high risk or not. Since I'm on 2 week appointments now, we do them every 2 weeks. Your doctor might have ordered the tests anyway, even if you d

  • I have weekly non stress tests and ultrasounds due to GD and have since 32 weeks. This is my 3rd pregnancy with GD and the first time I have had to do this but it is standard care now.

  • I have a MTHFR mutation as well, but I've never had an NST with either pregnancy. My OB isn't requiring the kick counts this time around, but baby is super active all day, so that might be the reason why.

  • I will have a NST as well as an ultrasound once a week until the baby is here. (starting about 35 weeks) I have had issues they want to watch.
  • Hadn't even heard of NST and I haven't had an ultra sound for months.   I hope I am getting good care! Sad My doctors just check the heart beat.  I will ask at

  • I've been doing bi weekly NST's since 34 weeks due to high bp. I like doing them because it gives me reassurance when I hear LO's heartbeat and they do an ultrasound with every visit to check AF. So I get to see LO twice a week.

  • From here on out I will get NST once a week at my appointments.  I have a 2-vessel umbilical cord so that's the reason for me.  It's nice to hear LO heartrate and just to be reassured every week even though LO is super active!!

  • Thanks for your feedback everyone!  It looks like a lot of people get them for a lot of different reasons. It does provide a lot of ressurance for me so I'm glad I am getting them even if some days it seems like she moves a ton.

  • I go twice a week for about 30-40 minutes each on tues. and fri. Because I have gestational hypertension and gestational diabetes. They check babies movement and heart rate as well as contractions. To me its time consuming on top of seeing the neonatologist
