when to stop using ergo insert

My 10 week old is just under 15 lbs. He seems to spill out over the carrier and it's difficult to put him in if I'm alone. However, when I put him in it without the insert yesterday, he seemed so small in there. His head and neck control is pretty good, but insticively I still want to put my hand behind his head. Do I need to wait until 4 months to stop using the insert?

It depends on head control. If LO has good head control, don't use the insert.

I think 15 pounds is way too big for the insert. I would still try the pillow part for him to sit on - try having him sit directly on that - so his legs will be "out" but not overspread by the bottom of the carrier. The top of the carrier shou

I stopped using the insert when the girls had good head control, between 3 and 4 months. DD2 is almost 7 months and I still use the pillow part. She seems the most comfortable this way.
