Teething, sick.. just not sure?!

LO had a fever starting Wed of last week - at it's worst 101.9.  We took him to the Dr on Thurs morning and she said she couldn't find any indication of anything in his chest or ears and therefore assumed it was viral and told us to treat the fever with Tylenol.

By Friday he was hovering around 100.4 or so (which the Dr. said was just below where we should give any treatment at all - so we stopped Tylenol).  He has wavered between a low of 97.6 and high of 100.4 all weekend.

He's just plain not himself... he's still whiny, needy, waking at night whimpering and needing to be held.  He also is barely eating even now, 5 days later.  We went from normal consumption of approx. 25-28 oz of formula and 16oz of solids every day down to maybe 10oz of formula and 8-10oz of solids.   The biggest problem is his complete refusal to take the bottle... getting even the 10oz into him is a HUGE battle.

The Dr also told us to try to get him to take pedialyte.. which he also refuses because he doesn't want the bottle.. he seems to be ok with solids but much less an appetite than normal.

So, my question is.. could this possibly be teething?  Would it be lasting this long?  I'm planning to follow-up with Dr tomorrow but I thought I'd ask to see if anyone has experienced something similar - or has some thoughts about teething symptoms and the duration of symptoms?

  • If he's drooling excessively and biting and chewing on things like crazy, then I'd say it could be teething.  Have you run your finger along his gums to see if you feel or see anything?  If you don't see any of those symptoms, I would be worried

  • Does he still have the fever.  Our ENT said ear infections can come on very fast.  She said there were two times where her son's ear looked fine in the morning and by lunchtime, he had ear infections.  So your DS may have developed an ea

  • If he's had a fever that long you should definitely take him back to the dr.  My LO was kind of similar--low grade fever for several days, pretty grumpy, etc.  We chalked it up to teething for a few days but then finally took her to the dr.&nbsp
  • My LO is in the midst of this right now except add throwing up to the mix. We're on day 4 of throwing up once a day. She was in to the doc and said it could be teething mixed with something viral. Our doc said anything over 101 fever is more than teething

  • That sounds almost exactly what our little guy is like. He's had a low grade fever since last Friday and daycare said he wasn't wanting his bottles, but was eating solids like a champ. This weekend we just kept sucking his nose out and he was doing fine w
