Advice on getting LO to nap...please!

Hi ladies - my DD is 3.5 months old and I don't think she's getting enough sleep during the day because she's definitely not getting the sleep that she wants.

She will only fall asleep in my arms though I've tried letting her fall asleep on her own. I know she's still a little young for that, but I don't know how to get her to that point. If I put her down downstairs, she will wake up from the noise - I have a very loud 2 year old and trying to keep him quiet is futile.

If I put her down upstairs, she wakes within 5-20 minutes.

The only good nap she has been getting during the day is from about 1-3 when her brother sleeps.  She wants a morning nap and she wants a late afternoon nap, and neither is happening.

I feel like I spend all day trying to get her to rest and with a toddler, it's wearing me down and also not allowing me time with my DS (because if she's not sleeping, she's crying because she wants to be). Any advice at all is really appreciated.

  • Do you have her napping with a white noise machine on? That might help muffle the noises of your toddler. Or what about wearing her and letting her nap in a carrier?

  • It is hard to get our LO to go down for a nap sometimes. He will often fall asleep if we wear him. Sometimes, he will fall asleep while nursing and let me lay him down (but he usually wakes up). He usually takes 2 naps a day while DH wears him, for a

  • At that age, the only place DS would nap was the swing. It was a terrible phase, but it did end.

  • I completely how you're feeling.  DS started fighting naps when he was that age.  Luckily, I only have 1 child so at least I didn't have to worry about a second child.  It is really tough at 3.5 months as they're still a bit too young fo

  • Swing is the only thing that works for us right now too...unless we hold her and sit still the whole time!  She's also 3.5 months.

  • How does she sleep at night? DS is 4 months, and always sleeps swaddled. He used to only sleep about 20 minutes or so at a time in the swing. When I started swaddling him for naps as well, he started going 1.5-2 hours each time. I know it's harder with a

  • Thanks for the advice, I actually feel so much better just knowing this is normal.  I just remember DS having such a concrete nap schedule at this point (he did that himself) that I worried about DD.

I do let her sleep in the swing downstair
