Two Under 2

Are we crazy?

DH and I have been enjoying our 5 month old daughter and going through all the usual new parent struggles and joys.  We love being parents and feel lucky our DD has been so "easy" with no real colic etc etc. Now her birthmother has informed us she is pregnant again (just 1 month?) and wonders if we would adopt another child of hers. We would love for DD to have a full blood sibling and for our second adoption to be an easy match etc as she doesn't do drugs or drink or anything which can be hard to find in the adoption world.  Are we crazy to think we can have a newborn and a 13 month old? It has to be easier than twins, right???? Totally excited freaked out right now.

Re: Are we crazy?

  • Our boys are 14 months apart, and yes it has been a little crazy so far, but doable. The easiest part about all of this for you guys is that you won't have to do a pregnancy with a toddler, which can be really challenging. I say if you guys are up for a l

  • My DD and DS are going to be 13.5months apart. I'm sure we'll have a few crazy months, but in the end everyone I've talked to with similar age gaps loves it. From an adoption standpoint (I have adopted siblings), keeping biological siblings together is a

  • This is very close to what my mom and dad had; my brother and I were adopted, but we aren't blood related at all. I was 11 months old when my brother was born, and he was adopted when he was 8 months old (so I was 19 months old). Well, I guess it's not

  • I would definitely go for it. How often does this opportunity come along? Plus I think it would be good for your DD to grow up with a biological sibling.

  • I definitely think you should go for it assuming you have the resources to adequately provide for a second child.  You'll have some rough moments in the early months but it gets easier with age. It's definitely manageable overall. Good luck!

  • I would do it in a heartbeat. Ours will be 18 months apart and I would've been way okay with sooner.  Sounds like you have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I'd totally take advantage of!

  • How wonderful!  FWIW mine are 10 1/2 months a part.  Currently almost 20 months and just turned 9 months.  I am still standing! :)   Some of it is really hard but most of the hard stuff would've been hard if they were 2-3 years apart.
