NE1 opting to do elective CS becuase of AMA?

Both my FIL and aunt (mom's sister) are OBGs and they strongly recommend that I do a CS due to the fact that I am in the AMA category. My own dr has left that decision up to me and he said he supports whatever decision I make. Needless to say I am scheduled on my 39 for CS, but as I am getting closer, I feel like I should do it natural, so I can bounce back faster!

I was wondering if your drs have made that recommendation to you because of your age, too.

  • Their reasoning is that studies have shown as the mother is older, the chance of vaginal prolapse is significantly higher.

  • Not at all.  I had an emergency c-section last time, I'm almost 39, and my OB STILL let me choose how to deliver this time.  She actually was somewhat encouraging of a VBAC, although in the end I have decided on a repeat c-section, for various r

  • Nope. I specifically asked my OB about this last week in our introductory meeting. She said even though I'm 39 and having twins, she wouldn't promote a CS based on just that.

  • It's interesting that your relatives are telling you this.  I just got home from an OB's appointment today, and one of the things I asked is what were the chances that I could give birth vaginally.  I was told it was very good.  I'll b
  • My mom had me at 41 vaginally without any issues.  I am 43 now, but will need a repeat c-section due to a vertical incision on my uterus.  Without that, my OB would have let me try VBAC especially since I delivered my first vaginally.  Yes,

  • I honestly have never heard of this being a reason to recommend cs.  If you are feeling like you want a vaginal birth, I would strongly urge you to follow your instincts.  A cs is no joke, it's major abdominal surgery with its own risks.  U

  • I had my daughter when I was 37 and will have this baby at 39.  I was never EVER told that I would have to have a cs based on my age.  The only complication that can arise due to age is placenta insufficiency towards the end of the pregnancy

  • I wouldn't do this just because of AMA and no other reasons.  I'm a physician, not an OB, but I haven't heard or seen this as common practice.

  • Vaginal and uteral prolapse after 3 kids is not common. The women who usually suffer from this sort of thing are women who have had MANY kids.
