Ladies who give their LO Biogaia...a question

Do the drops have to be refrigerated? My friend actually had two unopened sample bottles fom her pediatrician, and she gave them to me. I don't see anything on the box, or in the pamphlet that says that they have to be.

Also, when/how do you give them to your LO? Do you just put 5 drops in their bottle?

  • My pedi said it doesn't have to be refrigerated, but it does help it last longer. I put the drops on a spoon and give it to him that way.

I'm fairly certain they have to be refrigerated.  I just checked, it says "Keep refrigerated" on the bottle.

For dosage I just try to get 5 drops in his mouth. We don't use bottles at all, so that's not an option for us. Though when the last bottle was almost empty I had to put the drops on my finger and have him suck on that because it was taking waaaaay too long to get the drops out.

  • My understanding is that they don't have to be refrigerated they just have to be kept at a fairly cool room temp, so you'd probably want to keep them refrigerated if you don't have AC.

I drop them directly into DS mouth, which can be a little challenging, but since it's an oil based solution I was worried about it just 'floating' in the bottle and never getting consumed.

I drop it in his mouth or onto my finger and let him suck on it. As for the refrigeration, I looked at the box and I didn't think it specified. I think as long as you use A/C your good. Ugh, I fail.

  • I just looked at mine and it says keep up 77 degrees so you should be fine if you keep your home cool. I put 5 or 6 drops in her bottle.

  • Our bottle says keep at 77 degrees, so I just keep them in her nursery so I can give them right before bed. It took me forever to figure out to put them on my nipple before I nurse her, you could probably also put them on a paci if you use them. They should really change the dispenser or give you a dropper or something!

  • It's on their website that it doesn't need to be refridgerated.  In cooler months, they ship it in a little box.  Times like this, they ship it in a big cooler with ice packs.  Because delivery trucks are hot.

If you do refrigerate it, it is really hard to get it to come out of the bottle.

  • We don't refridgerate.  I put the 5 drops in the nipple of her early morning bottle.  Let her suck it out and then whatever is residual she will get when she drinks the bottle.  I'm always afraid she won't get full dose if she doesn't finish her bottle so that's why I put it in the nipple directly.

Mine came from the fridge at my pharmacy and has big bold letters on the packaging that says "KEEP REFRIGERATED". I give DS three drops on a paci, let him suck a while and then two more drops.

  • While lying in my lap (The crevice of my leg) I just pull my baby girls chin down to open her mouth and drop them in. I'm not sure this will work as she gets older and stronger but colic shouldn't last beyond 3 months, 4 months max, anyway. You should not mix this probiotic with any warm liquids, including breast milk as  it will kill the live bacteria and make it ineffective. We refrigerate our just to be on the safe side but it looks like you can keep it at room temperature of no warmer than 77?.
