Desperate for sleep

My LO is 12 weeks old and has yet to STTN. She can go from 10:30-7 without eating, but she wakes up every half hour or so from 3:00 and on, and then by 6:00 she won't go back to sleep. Therefore I, too, am getting up every half hour to give her a pacifier, and then every couple minutes between 6 and 7. I go back to work on Thursday and want her to sleep until 7 so I have time to get ready first.

Does anyone else whose LO didn't STTN naturally have any pointers? I've been trying to follow The Baby Sleep Solution Book and she is now able to go 4 hours between feedings during the day as the book recommends (I EBF), but it hasn't helped the night wakings.

Re: Desperate for sleep

  • No advice, but my DD didn't start STTN until she was 13-14 weeks.

  • I would stick to feeding her every 3 hours during the day to make sure she gets enough calories during the day.  Maybe eating more during the day would help.  It shouldn't be a goal to make them go longer inbetween feedings during the day the

  • Also, I would try to move up bedtime if I were you.  You think it would make her wake earlier but it should probably do the opposite because she'll be better rested.  They should start sleeping 12 hours at night, with one wake up maybe.  So

  • DD STTN for a week and is up every 2-2.5 hours now. I think it's 4 month wakefulness [check it out on kellymom] just a little early.

Have you tried feeding her at 3? I know my DD is getting distracted and not eating well during the day and that m

  • Ditto wild_flower.  DD started sleeping better once we moved her bedtime up.  We usually try to get her in the tub by 7:00 PM, then I'll nurse her one last time after that.  She usually falls asleep pretty quickly, I'd say by 7:30 or so,

  • I switched her to the 4-hour schedule because that's what the book recommended, saying she would then take in more at each feeding. But maybe you guys are right, maybe I should try every 3 hours again, and again when she wakes up at 3. It seemed like w

  • I recommend  two books, Twelve hours of sleep by 12 weeks, worked for my first son and is now starting to work with my 10 week old. I also recommend, healthy sleep habits, happy child is a great sleep reference book. I would try the earlier bedtime

  • I think some babies at this age just can't physically eat more so cutting out feedings just cuts out calories.

  • Tigergirl25, the Twelve Hours of Sleep by 12 Weeks is the same as The Baby Sleep Solution, just with a different title. Do you follow the 4-hour feedings, or stick to 3? Is your LO able to follow the nap schedule of 1 hour in the morning and 2 hours in

  • Thanks everybody, it has been helpful to talk this through and see it written down much clearer than just trying to figure it out in my own sleep deprived mind! : I'm going to drop the dream feed and feed her whenever she wakes up. I just so desperately
