Parenting after 35

Would you do this or am I nuts?

DS loves listening to/watching on TV the Celtic Thunder show. They will be performing in our area in the Fall shortly after DS turns 2. The show is in a venue where there is a hotel and it doesn't start until 7 PM. Tickets are $45 each. We are considering taking DS to the show since he seems to like it and we would enjoy it too. Are we nuts to even consider it? Would you dare do this? He has sat through football games and hockey games just fine. WWYD?

Re: Would you do this or am I nuts?

  • Depends on how you think your LO will do having to sit still and be quiet for the duration of the show. I personally would not take DD to any show not geared toward kids (sesame street live, disney on ice) before she can understand that she has to be quie

  • I would do it, as long as I had easy access to get out if needed!  Can you request aisle seats?  That way, if one of you needs to take your DS out for a break, it's easier.

  • I guess it depends on the sound system. But if there is more than 30 minutes worth of music or loud sound effects, I would not do it.

I just read another article on hearing loss.  I have diagnosed hearing loss and I know that a lot of

  • If you do it, get LO a pair of those earmuffs they make for kids that muffle sound, in case the show is super loud (which would be my biggest concern).

  • I think it just depends on your LO.  If I asked this question my friends and family would tell me I was completely insane.  There is NO way my kid would make it.

  • Those are good points about being concerned with the noise level. I was thinking more about people giving me the stink eye for bringing a 2 year old to an evening concert. I was hoping they would have a matinee but they don't. I was also concerned

  • I wouldn't.    Mostly because I'm selfish and wouldn't enjoy the show myself as much if I had to wrangle a kid the whole time.  Plus, I'm cheap.  I don't wanna spend a crapload of money on something like this for my 2 year old,

  • It depends on how you feel about eating that $45. I mean, he may love it and stick it out or he could pitch a fit and you guys would have to leave 5 minutes in.
  • I'm not sure if someone already mentioned this, I might have missed it.  Some shows have afternoon shows geared toward kids.  I know when the Nutcracker comes to Boston they have matinee shows that are geared toward children.  You might be
  • Last year, we took our 2 and 4 year old to see the Celtic Women. They were obsessed with watching their videos and listening to them so we took them when they came to town. It was an outside venue, so maybe a little easier for movement with them.We too
