STM Earliest plane flight with new baby

We're trying to plan a family reunion which will require a 2 hour plane flight. I'm due Aug 8th. Assuming I don't go over cerclage comes out 3637 weeks what do you think is the earliest we'd feel comfortable traveling?

Re: STM Earliest plane flight with new baby

  • Earliest would be 6-8 weeks after birth, but even then... U r looking at the start of flu season in October, so for me if would be a while... April or after vaccination.

  • Sorry to clarify I mean after birth. I was thinking 8 weeks too.

  • It's really hard to say. It somewhat depends on how easy your baby is and how comfortable you are. We took a 24 hour car ride with my oldest out to see my grandparents at 3 weeks. It wasn't a big deal at the time but looking back now I think it wa

  • I travelled with my DD for the first time about 9-10 weeks pp. I probably could have travelled a bit earlier, but it was a good time. I was confident in my abilities, DD was getting social and sleep was improving. I drove 12 hours with my parents and f

  • We flew internationally with DS2 when he was 4 months. I probably wouldn't travel until then. But, that's only because DS1 was colicky and at 4 months you're kind of out of the water when it comes to the super fussy stage. Plus, like everyone else sa

  • We live in three cities and are planning to do a **very** early flight--we're working with our doctor, buying the baby her own seat, and flying first class with her.
It's not ideal, but the doctor is ok with it.

  • I flew across the country with my first at about 1 1/2 weeks. It was tiring but fine honestly. But if you are planning it, I'd aim for 8 weeks.

  • Not to touch on a touchy subject but, we don't vaccinate so I would travel anytime after my 6 week check up.
  • We traveled with my son about eight weeks postpartum, and it was the easiest trip ever. Aside from everything we had to bring, he slept the entire time. From security, through the plane ride, etc. He was not a fussy baby though,. I think it's going to tot
  • I flew with DD from OK to CA when she was 4 weeks old. At that age all she did was nurse and sleep so the trip went really smooth. It was also in early March but I wasn't too worried about her getting sick.
  • DS1's first flight was at 11 weeks.  With this DS, we are planning a trip around 8 weeks.  They are so easy to fly with as infants!  Now, at 18 months, its a totally different story!
  • I personally would be comfortable with anytime after 6 weeks.

  • I am showing my husband this thread. He thinks Thanksgiving is too early. I thought traveling with a baby would be much easier since they often sleep.
  • We flew to CO (from NY) for a wedding when DS2 was 6 weeks old.  No issues.
