A little late but free time hasn't been easy to find lately!
Benjamin Wyatt joined out family at 0641 on April 7th, one day after his due date. He was 7lbs 10oz, 19.5inchs long with APGARs of 8 and 9.
Starting at 12:30pm on my due date I began having irregular contractions that weren't painful but just uncomfortable and different than braxton hicks. Nothing that I could time or anything so around 10pm the hubby and I went to bed thinking nothing of it...
I awoke at 1:45 with severe back labor and contractions every 3-5 minutes. Being a first time mom I waited the 1 hour to assure that they were regular and then called L&D. I woke up the hubby at 3, and we got in L&D triage about 3:20ish. The contractions were still very painful and very close together, but I thought I was just being a wuss. We even left all of our bags in the car because I was worried that they were going to tell me I was only a 3 or something and send me home. Well, to our surprise when they checked me I was already a 7 and progressing quickly. My immediate response was "I want an epidural". I was very worried that they wouldn't be able to give me one because the labor was going so rapidly. Luckily I was able to get one, and right before they sat me up to have it placed they checked me again and I was 9.5 cm, still having intense back labor. Once the epidural was in, my water broke on it's own and it was game on! The nurse let me "labor down" for about 45mintues to allow the epidural to take effect and to let me try certain positions to encourage the little guy to turn anterior before we started pushing.
He did turn, and pushing was surprisingly easy at the time. He did have to have a little bit of assistance with the vaccum because he had his hand by his mouth and it kept getting "caught" as well as a nucal cord. He came out absolutely perfect with a slight conehead, and cried so quickly I was surprised. It seemed like his feet weren't even out yet and he was already crying! He was vigourous and more alert than any newborn I have ever seen! My husband cut the cord and has been the most perfect father ever since!
I wish everyone who has not yet had their babies the best. It is truly life changing. I am excited, terrified, and completely in love with this little angel all at the same time!
I dont know how to post a picture...tips?
