Won't take bottle of breast milk, please help!

I've read more posts on the internet about this than I can count, but still no luck. DD is 12 weeks old. She's goes 11 hours when I'm at work basically without eating. She may get 1-5 ounces but never really latches on. It is so stressful for me.  Luckily it's only 3 days/week, but I would really love for her to take a bottle. So far I have tried: Medela, PLaytex Ventaire and nursers (silicone and latex), Tommee Tippee, Avent, MAM, Similac, and we've moved on to medium flow nipples because my milk comes out very fast.  SOmeone recommended a sippy cup. Anyone tried this?

Any suggestions are much appreciated!

  • One of the women I work with had this problem.  She would nurse in the morning and he wouldn't eat again until she got home.  She tried absolutely everything and nothing worked.  I would say just keep trying and practicing.  That's got

  • DD would only take it if we ran the nipple under hot water right before giving it to her.  She was drawn to the warmth and once the milk started coming she was good to go.
  • the only way DD took a bottle was to be distracted. I tried all sorts of bottles and ticks (like shirt that smelled like me around bottle)

but the thing that ultimately worked was like propping her in front of tv and then my mom (who watched her

  • I've been avoiding pumping, but now I figure I should!  I don't go back until LO is 6 mo, but he should probably be exposed to a bottle!  If all else fails, you can syringe feed her or use an open cup.

  • I would try First Years Breastflow bottles. They were the only ones my younger daughter would take but she would take them. Otherwise try a sippy cup, an open cup, a dropper.

I'll also say, with the hopes that it will help you feel better,

  • How long did you wait to introduce a bottle? We use Dr. Browns, but my LO  has never been picky about the different brands. Have both you and DH tried to give her the bottle? Maybe LO would smell you and think it was your nipple if you positioned the
