Pedi says FF OK

DS had his 18 mo well baby today. The pedi has always said RF until 2 as part of his well baby blurb. Today he asked if DS was FF yet and we told him no. He told us that DS was plenty big enough to be FF and that we can go ahead and turn him around. We were considering doing that within the next few months because he was getting too big to him get in and out of our smaller vehicles without him getting banged up. DH and I were both pretty shocked that the pedi said to go ahead and turn him FF.

  • That's interesting. I'm thinking that DD is going to have to turn soon. She's starting to look uncomfortable.

  • I'd side eye a pedi that said a child under two should be FFing because they are "big enough". You might have an 18 month old who is the size of, lets say, a three year old but they still have the spine of an 18 month old. I'm definitely in the extended r

  • Yeah it just depends on the seat. We ordered this seat because it RFs up to 40lbs and 40 inches. https://carseatblog.com/3332/safety-1st-complete-air-with-air-protect-first-look-review/

I don't know why your pedi suggested that. Did he/she even kn

  • I'm side eyeing your pedi too.

Our pedi just had this discussion with us at Wes' 18m appt. He is a big boy, 31 lbs and 35" tall, and the pedi said to keep him RF'ing as long as we could. He said their recommendations recently changed to that

  • N's First Years Convertible seat goes up to 65 lbs and 50 inches.  I assume she will likely reach 50" before 65 lbs, because I'm pretty sure her sister isn't even 65 lbs yet.

  • Everyone has off days at work, including pedis. When it comes to non-medical topics I tend to use the pedi's advice as a point of research and make my own decisions.

  • Yeah clearly having been a pediatrician for a long time an having six kids isn't really a plus in this scenario.

I don't see why there would be any reason to FF until your kid reaches the RF limit.
